The researchers from https://writemypaperbro.com/how-to-cite-a-movie/ service show then the impact of media and news issues is not always obvious. In fact, we often take news and what we see on TV for granted. As a result, it is very difficult for us to perceive the full extent of issues highlighted in news coverage. In such a situation, it is only a truly great tragedy can affect us to the bottom of our hearts. In this respect, I recall the tragedy of September 11, which I could not believe at first, but which became a shocking event, especially when various TV channels covered the terror attacks and its effects in details. At this point, I perfectly understand the situation and main characters depicted by Todd James Pierce in his “Newsworld II” and I believe this story has managed to convey feelings of millions of Americans who stick to their TV sets, while watching terror attacks and their effects as a terrible reality created by some maniacs.
Speaking about “Newsworld II”, I would like to lay emphasis on the fact that the author has noticed a significant of media on the audience, which I have not been fully aware of before. In fact, it is hardly possible to disagree with Pierce that modern media, especially television are overwhelmed with violence and often we do not pay much attention to violent acts we see on TV. However, the presence of such amount of violence can really distract the audience from the adequate perception of violent acts that occur in the real life. In fact, violence becomes a part of our life. At this point, I should say that I first watched a news report on terror attacks on September 11, I had a similar reaction of disbelief as characters of “Newsworld II” had. Even though “they frequently see explosions and death on television and movie screens, they cannot grasp the reality of 9/11” (Anderson, 2008). Frankly speaking, it was difficult for me to get rid of a feeling that the terror attacks were unreal, though I was not like Jeff Loeb’s little brother who had thought that it was a movie.
However, very soon this sense of unrealism of the terror attacks had been replaced by a profound shock and fear had almost paralyzed me making me unable to stop watching TV and issues related to the attacks. So, I perfectly understand characters of “Newsworld II” who “were scared, but didn’t know how to say we were scared” (Pierce, 2006, 88). The first days after the terror attacks I was like Jenny Craig, who “watched all day, clicking from one channel to the next” (Pierce, 2006, 90). In fact, it was only long time after the attacks I understood that television can have a “traumatic effect” on the audience (Barker, 2008, 64), especially when such tragedies as September 11 are shown in details. On the other hand, it is obvious that gradually we get accustomed to violence both on television and in our real life and it is very dangerous.
Thus, I believe that we should pay more attention to what we actually watch and it is important to avoid a negative impact of television on psychology because news coverage and violence on TV can have a really destructive effect, which was particularly obvious after September 11.
